When people come to us we always tell them what I am sure most photographers say, which is trying to drive home the fact of how important Photography is. At the end of a wedding, flowers die, food gets digested and your memories even start to fade away, but the one thing other then your honey that you will keep after the wedding are your photographs. I believe that with all my heart…. but just recently it became more real to me.
For those of you who frequent the blog, you know we had a baby girl in October after many trials and tribulations. A few days before that milestone in our lives, my grandmother reached an important milestone as well. She turned 100 years old. We celebrated with a huge surprise party with all her family and friends and her actual birthday (October 4th) was even commemorated by the mayor of Hialeah, Carlos Hernandez, as Francisca Gonzalez Day and the same was also done in the city of Miami by Commissioner Willy Gort. Unfortunately, she had a fall and was put in the hospital with a hair line fracture. My grandma had broken both hips in the past, was operated and was perfectly fine and I think we all expected the same thing this time. My grandmother had the most incredible smile and disposition. In my 32 years on this planet, I can never recall her ever raising her voice at me or even being mad. She was the sweetest, kindest person I’ve ever had the pleasure of knowing.
October 11th our daughter, Annabella Hope was born, five days later we did her first photo shoot. My grandmother was still in the hospital and was not able to meet my beautiful little princess that we have been praying so long for. Because we were afraid to bring a new born to a hospital, where she could get sick, I went to see my grandmother one last time. That same night I woke up at 11:30 pm crying uncontrollably because I hated seeing my ordinarily happy and lively grandmother in a hospital bed. That same night, at that exact moment when I woke up crying, my dad received a call that my grandmother had passed away. It was as if something inside my heart knew she was gone at the moment I woke up in tears!
The only solace I have, is that before she passed, she was able to at least see a photograph of our princess and she said how beautiful she thought she was. Below is the photo that she saw of our baby girl and above are two photos of my beautiful grandmother, who now is my daughters guardian angel.
Always remember the importance of photography and capturing the special moments of your life, because they are our special momentous of the past and you never know just how impactful and meaningful that photograph could one day be. Photographs don’t change even when people and circumstances do.
